Who We Are
Thank you for your interest in Shelton Covenant Ministries (SCM). SCM is a Michigan ecclesiastical corporation (church) with a registered 501(c)(3). Since 1973, Ken Shelton has served as a youth pastor, evangelist, author, songwriter, recording artist, counselor, and pastor. He is an ordained bishop with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) and an apostolic overseer with Evangel Association of Churches and Ministries. A more important consideration is that at SCM we have a heart for God and for people.
What “Covenant” means to us
For us, being in covenant is found in the Greek term, koinonia, (to share). SCM values these things as described in Acts 2:40-47.
Covenant means to share:
- Grace – God’s influence on our soul. The early believers shared the good news of God’s grace with the world around them.
(Acts 2:40-41) - God’s wisdom – By sharing the “apostle’s teachings” these new believers were able to discuss what the Holy Spirit was revealing to them from the Old Testament scriptures and the revelations given to the apostles.
(Acts 2:42) - Communion – “Breaking of bread” (Acts 2:42) means both sharing food as well as sharing holy communion (the bread and wine) and prayer. This is a perfect example of Christian fellowship.
- Mercy means sharing kindness and compassion for those in need. Grace and mercy are tightly woven expressions of God’s eternal Love toward us, and through us to others. The Bible teaches us to be willing to share whatever another person needs if we are able to do so (i.e. wisdom, our resources, Luke 6:36, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”). It also means to share our spiritual Gifts. (See Luke’s reference to “signs and wonders” in Acts 2:43 and Paul’s reference in I Corinthians 12)
- Fellowship (Acts 2:46-47), is at the heart of the Christian faith. Our relationship with God and others is the most valuable thing in the world. I John 1:5-7 says, “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
- Participation is the action-oriented theme of, “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.”
- Worship Acts chapter 2 continues to reveal that the community of believers, “praised God and had favor with all people.” (V. 47) Worship is the believer’s lifestyle and part of our worship is demonstrated in the favor that God gives His people.
